Second day in Rotorua, we visited Wai-O-Tapu
On our second day in Rotorua, we opted to have breakfast in the comfort of our room since we had a fully equipped kitchen. We enjoyed a nice continental breakfast that Father Bunny had shopped for at Park’n’save.
Geothermal Power and The Ring of Fire
Our first stop for the day was Wai-O-Tapu, which according to our travel guides and locals, is one of the best places to experience the geothermal power of the region.
Rotorua is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, so it’s no surprise that this area has such geothermal activity.
We paid an entrance fee of about 25 NZD (13 EUR) to access a three-loop circuit with an impressive geyser eruption that reaches up to 20 meters at 10:15 am. I must say that the pictures we took were breathtaking, but I’ll leave it to you to decide.
I will say you just enjoy the pictures and decide by yourself.
Waimangu, Buried Village
Next stop – Buried village- I know that I should write about this place’s story, but again will let you to decide – link-. After some 25 NZ$ each we entered in something that I have no words to describe and I am still hearing father bunny yelling nasty words.
A year ago we were in Hokkaido – Japan- and we visited an earthquake destroyed city – no entry fee- where you could really feel and fear the danger and anger of Mother Earth.
