We’ve just arrived in one of the oldest and most popular destinations in New Zealand. After careful consideration, we chose to stay at the Princess Gate, the oldest hotel in town, where the staff was kind enough to upgrade us to a bungalow with a kitchen and living room, instead of our regular room.

Unfortunately, the interior of the hotel caused some trouble for my father, who suffers from asthma, due to the carpet and hot atmosphere. The first night was a little challenging with him constantly complaining about the room, and his poor running โ€“ he went for a run with the cold weather.

Despite our fatigue from the worst jet lag we have ever experienced, we managed to watch the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. It aired here at 00:30, and though it was quite impressive, it was a little too much for us since we usually wake up at 5:00 every day.

After watching the Spanish team, who had awful uniforms, enter the stadium, we ended our Olympic day. It was interesting to see that the NZ sports channel and the Chinese TV were both searching for Mr. Nadal, and they finally found him.

We hope the next few days will be better, and we can explore more of what Rotorua has to off
